Literature, history and politics have always been my three great passions. In fact, when applying to university I was torn between English Literature and Archaeology, and ultimately chose to study the latter at the University of York. I earned a First Class (Hons) degree, followed by an MA (Distinction) and ultimately a PhD in Medieval Studies – and through all my studies I never stopped reading voraciously and writing my own fiction.

After leaving Cambridge with a double first undergraduate degree, a masters with distinction, and a PhD, I took up a postdoctoral fellowship in the English Faculty at Oxford, where I taught and researched for two years. Here, I also was in the English admissions team at one of the Oxford colleges, selecting and interviewing undergraduate candidates.
